We're almost dried out....

Well, we're all in one piece, and my house is still standing, and as of today, we've got the last of the flood damage crud out of the downstairs. I'm sorry that I haven't been online or checked back in for so long--I saw where you posted mommybeetx asking about us down here, but I just saw it today! Hope you stayed more dry that we did claritysblue--we went downstairs last Friday morning after the wind stopped dropping tree parts on us and our ground level was still under about 6-8 inches of water. Apparantly our back yard turned into a red clay colored lake during the night, and the water flooded our driveway out, then washed in, and once it got deep enough in the back of the house, it actually went up and over the basement wall and flooded that way too. I felt like a duck splashing around in my husband's office. Fortunately all of the truly expensive equipment was WAY up and out of harm's way, and we had unplugged everything and put the cords up the day before because of the storm. My IL's house was okay, but the only road up to it washed out, and then formed a sink/slide zone that went down over 3-4 feet deep in places in a crevice that stretched down the middle of the road. You couldn't drive even next to it because it would just crumble more for days. UGH! We were pretty lucky all in all. Our neighbors at the bottom of the hill were under 3-4 feet of water in their living room until the creek receded, so I have trouble complaining about 6-8 inches.... The only ugly part was taking out the carpeting, and assessing how much of the wall board was going to have to go--and the smell (shooooo). Of course the insurance company is running for the hills, lol. Turkeys.

In any event, we're all safe and sound, which is a lot more than can be said for a lot of families around here. I've been avoiding the news this week after hearing about the fireman who went to rescue people leaving his pregnant wife and three year old supposedly safe at home, only to come home to a house under a mud slide, a dead three year old, and a wife who had to have her leg amputated to get her out and then lost their baby. I feel older this week. Sigh.

Hug your kids tonight.

I am sorry that you are going through all this.
It is no fun for anyone to lose their home or have floods happen.
I hope you get back on your feet soon.
Good luck..........

Oh, I'm sorry to hear about your house. Hope you get the damage covered and have adequate flood insurance. My dad actually was able to get his house lifted a few feet. He lives on the eastern shore of VA.

I am so saddened to hear about all of the devastation. also, I finally watched the news last night after a few days and was sickened to hear and see about what is going on in Haiti. So sad.
