What age did your kids start walking?

I am curious. My dd is now 1 year old and hand walking, wall walking and furniture walking. At her 1st party, a little boy who is 2 weeks younger than her is running a marathon almost!!!! He is moving around like a pro, with no assistance. People started saying stupid things to me to get me going, like "why isn't she walking yet, she's older... what are you doing to her..." bla bla bla. that kind of crap. I kept pretty cool, and just brushed it off. But now I want to know what age did your kids walk unassited at?

TIA

Hi Lesley!

Don't worry about what others say because every child is unique. I learned that very early on. Different reasons for both my son and daughter.

My dd and my niece are only 2 weeks apart and they have been compared since birth. Right now the comparison is my niece is riding her bike without training wheels, but my dd is not. Also, my niece has lost two teeth and my dd still has yet to lose any. (No hurry!) Anyway, my dd walked at 12 months and of course my niece walked earlier.

My ds on the other hand didn't walk until age two and still at almost age four has an akward gait. So of course we had constant questions and comparisons when it came to him walking. He was later diagnosed with Hypotonia (low muscle tone) and developmental delays. We are now searching for a "Medical Diagnosis" since the Insurance Company says that Hypotonia is a symptom not a diagnosis.

Anyway, his Doctor had said that there is no reason for concern until a child reaches about age two and is still not walking. So your daughter is fine and I'm sure will be walking real soon. Once she starts you won't be able to stop her. Best of Luck!!
