What do you guys think of letting a 6-month-old baby use pacifier as a sleep aid? I know the books says don't let it become a habbit. Has any of you had to stop that habbit for your babies? Was it hard? Do you think it's absolutely essential to keep pacifiers away from babies?

I don't have any advise for you, I never gave my dd one, I don't think she knows what one is. She did suck her thumb for about 1 month when she was 5 -6 months old, then she stopped.

The reason I didn't give her one ever, was seeing what my sister and my sil went through with thier kids, and trying to ween them off. They were all about 2 - 3 1/2 and (up for one of them) Every picture I have of them all had a huge pacifier in thier mouth, and I really don't know (or remember!) what thier beautiful little faces looked like!

Good luck! I guess the only advise I may have (which I don't know if I would do personally, but my mil did it..) would be to rub the tip in fresh grated ginger, then they won't like it anymore. That's what she did with my dh, and all of a sudden he didn't want it anymore...again, I have never dealt with it, or tried it!!!

Best of luck!

My daughter was a preemie and they wanted her to have the pacifier to help with her sucking-to gain weight faster-and help reduce the risk of SIDS. She gave it up by 3 months old. I tried and tried to get her to take it, but she did not want it. Now with the bottle-it took us up to 2 1/2 years old to give that one up.
