1st b-day???

My dd is turning one on May 31. I need help with ideas for planning the party and the goodie-bags. Any themes???

What is the neccesary time frame for a 1 yr old party? Most people are adults, we have a few young teens, and a couple toddlers, and only 3 other "almost 1" babies.

HELP!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Sniff, sniff... I can't beleive I'm planning my babies first birthday.... I think I need to go watch her birth video now..

Thanks

since it is mostly family,, you can either have it short or if it doesn't matter how loong they stay,, still put her down for a nap after cake,,, a lot of stores will give your child's 1st b-day cake free,,, It is a little one and I always gave that whole cake to my kids,,,,, I had 2 cakes,, one to serve to guests and that little cake I set right in front of my girls in their high chair and waited with the camera,,,, one of my girls made a real big mess and it was funny and the other 2 were very neat and carefully took little bites with their hands!!!

Do you want to serve a lunch too or just cake? You could have a outdoor picnic or barbque with hot dogs etc.

As for goodie bags,, well for the little one's it can contain anaimal crackers, or those little cereal boxes of cheerio's. Stickers?, dollar store has a bunch of great things you can find for the bags including the bags!!, maybe some candy like m&m's,,,

Take lot's of pictures and have family and friends sigh a guest book for her with maybe a little saying or something!!

It is emotinal,, I remember when ,y oldest now 12 turned one I started crying and I didn't understand why,, I asked my mother at the time what was the matter with me,, well now 3 kids and 12 and a half years later I get it but I was younger then and didn't get it!!

GL,,,, to you have fun with it,,

Okay warning..I love planning party's so some ideas are a little over the top but here is one I think might appeal to a variety of ages.

Have a drive-in movie party. Take cardboard boxes and paint them like cars. put little stools or something to sit on inside them. You can make the boxes as elaborate as you want. You can even get the teenagers attending in on the decorating fun and let them make one for themselves as a joke.

You can either move furniture inside to clear way or what we did since the weather was so nice is put our large screen tv outside in the yard connected by extension cord.

You can then have your pick of movie. Have kids dress up 50's style and play the movie Grease or even Lilo and stitch. 50's decorations are very inexpensive and you can just roll the kids jeans up and everyone wear white t-shirts.

For party favors give the little one eyeglasses from the dollar store and maybe even teenagers and adults as well. You could have old fashioned ice cream shakes for desert and movie food like hot dogs(cut small of course for little ones).

My family had a really good time with this theme and since my little one was one of the only babies it appealed to everyone.

have fun hope you find something you like!

Pinwheels, beach balls, sand castle buckets & shovels or bubble solution & bubble wands make good inexpensive party favors that work for kids in a variety of ages.

Depending on your child's nap schedule and those of others, it is sometimes good to do it in the morning or toward brunch time. You can serve bagels and cream cheese and fresh fruit that's in season. Then follow with cake or cupcakes.

Have fun and congrats on the big 1st b-day! - Suzanne
