What do I do? Freaking out.

Hello, I have a 9 month old that just smeared his poop all over his crib and himself. I am afraid that he might have eaten some of it. Is he going to need to go to see his doctor? Will he get sick? This is my third child and the first one to take his diaper off and do this so I've never been through this before. On top of that I am pregnant and so hormonal and naueseated. Of course I have cleaned everything with bleach (other than my baby) but he still smells like poop. Any help is greatly appreciated.:)

Hope it doesn't happen again!

I think you should call your ped.
I am not sure what could happen if you do this and if it could be bad or not.
I think it is better to be safe then sorry.
I am sorry to hear that your son decided to do it. I feel your pain.
((hugs)) to you. You must have been horrified. I think the above posts gave you some good advice. A one peice outfit would work wonders! To "disenfect" him I would just scrub him down in antibacterial soap. As a cleaning alternative mix a couple of tablespoons of vinegar in two cups of water...vinegar will kill 99.9 percent of germs and help take away the smell.
Just so you know this is perfectly normal...I know a lot of us here have poop horror stories :)

I know this post is a little late but I can say over the past 3 years or so I have become an expert in what you are experiencing..due to the fact both my boys have done it and more than once. My younest (21 months) has done it about 6 times in the last 2 months no joke. I don't know why they do it because he shows no signs of wanting or being able to potty train, but I know the emotional breakdown it causes when you walk into it and the horrible site it is. This is what I do when I finally gain sanity back:
First I grab the baby. Yes I know the whole idea of touching them at this point is replusing but you gotta do it..(lol) I recommend washing in antibacterial Dial or I have been known on occasion and I know it sounds horrible but its safe to use antibactieral Dawn. The reason is because the smell seems to be taken care of better due to the dishwashing detergent's natural ability to kill the smell. I usually wash the child twice getting out a nail cleaner to scrub the nails good, or even use my own nails to push the cleaner under the nail. I do this because that is one of the places it likes to hide the best. If its in their hair I usually wash just the parts of the hair it smells like with Dawn or Dial and then wash in regular baby shampoo...I recommend Loreal's kids formula that smells like Blueberry's its pretty strong and takes care of the smell. After you get the child cleaned and lotioned (want to lotion because antibacterial soap will overly dry I am living proof due to I wash my hands about 26 times a day and my hands are a different texture and color than the rest of my body from not properly moisturizing after every wash but something for you for that is Gloves in a Bottle bought at most beauty stores helps keep moisture in your hands anyhow). I then proceed to get the bed clothing first and put it immediately into the washer in hot hot water with the detergent and all...if the sheets are white with bleach if not then I of course don't use bleach but I do wash the bed clothes at least 2 times in hot water if not 3. Then I live by chlorox hand wipes. Because their easy to use and they aren't bleach based but they do kill most dangerous germs left by poop like ecoli. You can clean the bed mattress and the crib itself and walls with these handy dandy wipes and then I usually spray lysol spray and let dry. For the floor, if it got that far..I use a half and half mixture of lysol and water. The lysol is usally strong enouch to kill the smell and it will kill the germs as well. Apply rub and let dry. I have even been so mentally exhausted from these episodes I have just thrown out pillows or things I knew I could replace. As for calling the doctor, I wouldn't worry about it unless you child starts to have vomitting or diarrhea. That's when you should contact your doctor otherwise this is part of alot of children's rights or passage that we all hate =) especially me. lol good luck and as for stopping them from doing it I try to keep a one piece outfit on them during this stage for some reason it hinders the progress of the diaper becoming one with the child.
good luck
