Just curious...

I am a varoucious reader and can gobble up a couple of books a week.

My favorite are romance novels, I have been reading them since i was thirteen.

My favoties are historicals and action adventure.

I just finished "Hot Pink" by Susan Johnsan. It is a true guilty pleasure and I read it in one day. It is a little sex in the city, which I normaly would not enjoy but is a true Romance with guaranted happy ending. It is pretty steamy so caution if you don't like that sort of thing.

Today though I am starting main stream novel by Melinda Haynes called "ChalkTown" it is a novel about a sixteen year old boy who sets out to discover why the people in his small mississippi town only communicate through chalkboards on their front porches. Oh by the way the author is the best selling author of "Mother Of Pearl" will let you know how it goes.

To our CL Mel ..I thought it would be fun to start our own book club on here...maybe pick a new genre and new member to pick the book every couple of months? And maybe a place for members to review any movies they've seen or books they read?

I also am an avid reader. I am lucky that my dd likes to play alone sometimes, so I can read for a bit then! I am more into mysteries or suspense novels, but do occassionally love to read the sex and the city type books. I just finished reading "Just One Look" by Harlan Coben - it is a very twisty-turny mystery. I highly recommend it! I think that a book club would be wonderful. I am up to reading anything. My library is not huge, so I am pretty limited on some of the books I can get!

I've always been an avid reader, since childhood. I am currently reading "Vector" by Robin Cook. I typically steer towards suspense, mystery, and even fantasy books. I just found this weekend, the trilogy of JRR Tolkien's "Lord of the Rings" as well as "The Hobbit" at a garage sale for .25 cents a piece! I read them many years ago, but now with the movies all out, I want to encourage my kids to read the books as well to see what they were missing out on! The movies never compare to actually reading the books! I am up to hearing about any authors that I haven't heard about, that write suspense, mystery, etc. I have read every one of Stephen King and Dean Koontz books, and believe I've read all of John Saul's and almost all of Robin Cook's novels. I'm running out of things to read! My reading helps me to detach from my busy day, and even if it's just 1/2 hour, I try to read at least once a day, typically at night after all the kids are in bed. A book club sounds good to me too!

Stuart Woods and Robert J Parker are two other authors you could check out. They aren't all "mystery", but they are good, easy reading. I love authors that write about the same character in numerous books. As mentioned in my previous post, I would check out Harlan Coben. His most recent books are wonderful. I didn't care much for his earlier novels, but the ones written in 2000 and later will keep you on your toes!

Do we want to keep the book club here or should we start a chat room for them?

Keep us posted!

I've just read"The True and Outstanding Adventures of the Hunt Sisters" by Elisabeth Robinson which I really enjoyed. I'd like to see some movie reviews also. I hate carving out 2 hours to see a bomb of a movie. Although I guess it's pretty subjective. My Aunt watched "House of Sand and Fog" and then watched it again with me a week later. I hated it and she obviously thought it was great!

My husband bought me "The Care & Feeding of Men" by Dr. Laura-- I think that's a hint. He's reading it too, though, hoping to get some insight to me! :-)

I also bought "All the Days of Our Lives" by Alison Sweeney of Days of Our Lives. I admit it, I'm a closet watcher (when i get a chance which is once a month if I'm lucky!) :-)

However, it seems like I never have any time to read!

I am so happy to finally have time to read (daughter is 6 months and pretty content playing on the floor with toys!) I just read "The Rescue" by Nicholas Sparks. It's not a new book (I pick up my books at garage sales) but it's very good! I have enjoyed all of his books. I also just finished "Sabbath Creek" by Judson Mitcham (sp?) It was pretty good, a nice quick read.

Book Club idea sounds great!

Ultimate Hitchhiker's guide (all 5 books in one plus bonus story) by Douglas Adams, Through my Father's Eyes by Alice Walker, Stupid White Men by Michael Moore, Dude, where's my country by Michael Moore, C**t by Inga Muscio, White Oleander by Janet Fitch, Circle of Friends by Maeve Binchy, complete works of Jane Austen, and... and.... whatever else comes out. Love to read, what can I say?

About Dr. Laura... just in case you hadn't heard.... she poses as a psychologist and family counselor but her actual education is in physiology, not psychology. Some people really love and benefit from her advice, but I'm not a big fan of the way she kind of.... works around the fact that she's not a psychologist.

I would LOVE a book club. I'm living in Norway so my access to english language books is limited to Amazon.com and their shoddy delivery times out of the country, but I'd really like to be in on that anyway!

Heather :)

Hi!

I've read "The Devil Wears Prada" Lauren Weisberger (??) I think was the author. LOVED it! It was about an assistant to a famous fashion editor and her trials and tribulations during her first year in the job. VERY behind the scenes gossipy....

4 Blondes- Candace Bushnell (author of Sex in the City) Did not particularly like this book; a little too much for me. I've never watched Sex in the City but I imagine this book was more over-the-top than what I've heard of that show. The book is set up as four short stories, with no links to each other (except the characters are all blonde). Shallow and at sometimes hard to follow, but all in all it was an entertaining and quick read.

The Second Assitant-(Co-Authors can't remember names) Similar to Devil....but not as good. This one is set in Hollywood instead of New York. Kind of fluffy and no real character development. Again an entertaining and quick read.

As you can see I'm into the fictional gossipy, (pseudo) celebrity type, high society books. However I DO like mysteries as well. I did begin a book by Patricia Cornwell, "Blowfly". Did not have time to finish as the borrow period was only 7 days, but enjoyed the 5 or so chapters I read.

So far I have bene reading lots of kid's books since my kiddo's are in the Preschool Summer Reading Program! lol But I am also reading the final book in the "Left Behind" series. Hopefully I can finish it up real soon!

Also, a book club would be awesome! If we have a set deadline when to read our book by, that would be great! I do better when I have that deadline! lol Great idea! Thanks for thinking of it!

How do you like the Days of Our Lives book? I've been watching DOOL for about 10 years now. Well I'm like you. I only get to watch it about once a month but am still a big fan. BTW, I think the island story is dumb! lol Just *had* to share that!
