Just curious...

I am a varoucious reader and can gobble up a couple of books a week.

My favorite are romance novels, I have been reading them since i was thirteen.

My favoties are historicals and action adventure.

I just finished "Hot Pink" by Susan Johnsan. It is a true guilty pleasure and I read it in one day. It is a little sex in the city, which I normaly would not enjoy but is a true Romance with guaranted happy ending. It is pretty steamy so caution if you don't like that sort of thing.

Today though I am starting main stream novel by Melinda Haynes called "ChalkTown" it is a novel about a sixteen year old boy who sets out to discover why the people in his small mississippi town only communicate through chalkboards on their front porches. Oh by the way the author is the best selling author of "Mother Of Pearl" will let you know how it goes.

To our CL Mel ..I thought it would be fun to start our own book club on here...maybe pick a new genre and new member to pick the book every couple of months? And maybe a place for members to review any movies they've seen or books they read?

I haven't started it yet, but will give you an update as soon as I do. I'm trying to wade through Dr. Laura first.

On a side note, I hate cooking, but she recomends it (saying it shows DH we do appreciate him and focuses on family dinners--which I'm all for). I totally screwed up Mac & Cheese today (water boiled over!) Uggh.

I'll keep you posted!

PS--the Island is OK, the cage is horrible! I keep up to date on Dustin's Days of Our Lives Site. The summaries are really good and I don't feel like I miss anything!

Don't mean to sound too intrusive here, but....

How appreciated are you going to feel if you have to do something you hate every single day? If your DH enjoys cooking, perhaps it would make him feel appreciated if you and the kids let him know how much you like what he makes. That's what goes on in my house. I HATE COOKING HATE HATE HATE IT and tried to make dinner every day until I was about 8 mos. along with my son. DH then made dinner for about 2 nights in a row, just to relieve my aching back a little and when I told him again and again how GREAT his instant tacos were (they actually were), he decided that I should never make dinner again. He is now constantly trying out new recipes and has a great time with it.

This is not to say, of course, that your DH would necessarily like cooking, but perhaps if he doesn't like it either, you could show EACH OTHER you're appreciated by taking turns? (and not subjecting either one of you to doing something you hate every day) Dr. Laura to me is a little..... old fashioned to put it delicately. Also, don't know if you read my earlier post, but she is a physiologist, not a psychologist, a fact which she generally tends to keep well hidden.

Heather and Debbie,

Wanted to add a little side note... A crockpot(slow-cooker) can be a moms best friend. Especially in the summer time since it doesn't heat up the kitchen. I love cooking but not when it makes me so irritable from the heat. There are TONS of recipes on the internet. As a matter of fact we had Roast, potatoes, and carrots for dinner. All I did wasput in a frozen roast, pre-cut carrots, and baby red potatoes, and onions and garlic, poured over some v-8 juice and water some spices and Tada! Homeade kid pleasin dh pleasin dinner. I never once had to check on dinner.

IMHO if everyone can sit down to at least one meal together even if it's bought, then that is a good thing. My dh knows I appreciate him because I tell him so. Dh never had homeade meals from his mom so it is very important to him that he is feeling like his needs are being met. And to tell you the truth as a child I did not have that either

This could be it's own thread!

Believe me, I would never do anything I didn't want to do. However, Todd does work

I am an avid Dean Koontz reader myself. He has a BRAND NEW one that just came out. I am hoping it is one of my birthday presents from the hubby (June 24th) he usually gets me his new releases as surprise gifts. Very nice. ;o) I also like to read James Patterson. Which is what I am reading now because I have read all the Dean Koontz ones.
