My 19 month dd goes to bed between 9:30 - 10 pm. It's a little late, but when I put her down now I don't have to fight it, she usually just falls asleep, and she sleeps in the next morning.

I did not give my kids a set bedtime until they were 3.

My kids are seven and three now and they start getting ready for bed at 7:45 and are in bed at 8:00.

Hi Andrea,

I'm an American living in England... in US, many of my friends do 8:00-9:30, here in England, my friends do anytime from 6:00 (yes, 6!) to 7:30 being the latest! Oh, and yes they all sleep through the night- even at this age.

When I lived in the US, I did the later bed time, now living in England, I do the earlier bedtime! I find my kids do better with an earlier bedtime. Their body "chemistry" just works better... if you are really interested in sleep reading, there is an excellent book "Healthy sleeping habits, happy child" by Weisbluth which is written by an American dr (head of sleeping disorders clinic at Univ of Chicago) and it goes in depth... a friend recommended it and boy was it good! You will see sleep in a different light when it comes to your child after reading this book!!!

Hi,

I love hearing about other culture's and I am really curious about England. Is tea lunch? I am curious about eating habits in England...

Thanks so much! My dream is to visit England in the next few years. I love romance novels and plan to write one that takes place in regency England.

Well mine 2 yo goes to bed btw 9 and 10. Tonight she went at 7:30 since she did not nap. I like it when she does go down earlier then I get more free time.

Dh and I are both night owl so I would rather her go down later so she sleeps later. That is just what works for our family. Oh yes I am sure things will get a little harry when school starts and she has to get up. For now she usually gets up at 8:30

On the nights were she does not want to go down till 11 or 12 that is too late and drives me nuts.

I think ALL of those sound like late bedtimes. My kids (almost 2 and 4) go to up to bed at 6:30, and lights are out by 7:15. They get up between 7 and 7:30 the next morning and NEVER get up at night. The both nap every afternoon between 12:30 and 3:00.

Definitely check out the book "Healthy Sleep Habits, Happy Child." Kids need LOTs of sleep and this book is very imformative as to why and how to do it!

Hi Kelli,

I agree that kids need alot of sleep, although I have never read that book. But from what you are saying, your kid(s?) go down around 7:15pm, and sleep untill about 7:00 am...rounded off about 12 hours per night plus a 2-3 hour daily nap.

Why is having them up later bad... if they sleep well? (Just curious!)

I put my 19 month old down between 9-10ish pm, (sometimes later) and she sleeps until about 9-10ish am the next day (sometimes later), and has usually about a 2-4 hour nap in the day. Sometimes we have to wake her up. Is there a difference in sleep quality if they go down earlier vs later, but still sleep the full 12+ hours at night and have decent naps?

Thanks,

Lesley
