Ours always stay in bed. It's been our experience that something started while sick can sometimes be a hard habit to break when well. Nikki ended up unable to sleep by herself this way. When she was about 18 months she was sick so dh stayed with her. One night turned into one week turned into one month until finally it had been a year since he'd slept in his own bed (not including the nights she spent at her grandparents). Uuuhhhg! We finally broke her of it when she was about 3 and a half.
I think it has to be what works for you. My Dh and I practice attatchment parenting so we would put the older kids in bed with us if they were to get sick. We have never had a problem with getting them back in their own bed...but then again they are used to this kind of lifestyle. Go with you Mommy instincts I say.
I allow my kids to sleep with us when sick. It makes me feel better knowing they are near me if needing something. It is also easier then walking up and down the stairs to check up on them at night.
They pretty much sleep with us whenever they need to. If they do sleep in their beds when they are sick I do check on them more but that's rare that they don't migrate to our room. ;)
