I am so angry at how this courntry is treating it's own American Citizens! Yes we have started to move people out but there are people DYING of dehydration when just a few miles away there is water and food. Where are the airlines to step up and fly these people out of there?? Where are all the Grey hound buses?? It is Friday and today is the first day I have seen water and food trucks.
Yesterday a private bus came to pick people up from the hotels that were stuck...where are the people looking out for the poor people of our country?
We still have people dying in the streets and people are saying "well, why didn't they leave?" Huh? These are people that most of them did not even have a car to begin with! Did people blame the tsunami victims because they live in an area where tsunami's have been known to hit?
Sorry, just had to vent!!!

I do think that if they did not become so violent and stupid stealing tvs and things that it would have been faster.
No one wants to go there to get killed by stupid people.
I feel sorry for the ones who did nothing wrong and suffered.
I have to vent also. But maybe in a little different way. I am sick and tired of people (mostly the media) pointing the finger at who is to blame for this. Especially when they are pointing the finger to the President. HELLO! I think the only two that are to blame for this whole mess is the mayor of NO and the govenor of LA. They had two whole days to do something about this. When they issued the mandatory evacuation they didn't even think about those that had no transportation. And the mayor of NO knows that more than 30% of his city is at or below poverty. And when you see the city under water there are plenty of buses that are under water too. Why couldn't they get all the school buses, ask for other buses to come in and evacuate the people that wanted to leave but had no means. And I agree with you Mel about ppl not wanting to help cause of those few that are making things worse. I wouldn't let DH go and try to help if I knew there was a chance he could get shot at.
Then another thing that is starting to upset me is last night the media is turning this whole thing into a racial debate. Including Jesse Jackson when he visited NO he started commenting on this also. I am so glad that one black women told Jesse Jackson off. Yes I know it goes through everyone's mind "what if they were white", it went through my mind also right from the beginning. But I think they are starting something really huge here by making all those comments. Heck, and I am a minority also and yeah sometimes I feel like that also "what if I was white" but don't start commenting on this. It is just going to stir ppl up.
Since I am on a roll...lol. Another thing that is starting to upset me is the evacuees starting to complain about their shelter and about receiving cold food. DH told me he heard on talk radio that they are complaining about the signs at the Astrodome. People are asking where the restrooms are, for instance, and the volunteers are telling them that there are signs up everywhere telling them where things are located and they are getting upset about that. What, do they want to be held by the hand and taken to the spots. If I was in their situation I would not be complaining about anything and just be happy that ppl are willing to help out and be very greatful to be out of NO to begin with. Then on ABC Nightline last night they made a comment on how the governor of Texas could had done things a little faster and maybe its all cause of race. HELLO AGAIN! We have opened our cities/arms here in T.X. to help these ppl out, including here in San Antonio where 25,000 are suppose to come. And the state wants to release all the housing that is available to these ppl. So forget about our poor single mother that has been on a waiting list for years for a house, now we are gonna had it over to them. So they better stop complaining about how they are not getting stuff or how the food tastes. Because I can bet that alot of ppl will stop contributing/volunteering to this cause.

Well I feel much better now..lol. I was just watching Fox news and it seems to be alot better out there. Thank goodness! I just realized that all that bad stuff that the media was saying or the negative interviews with some of the evacuees were mainly on CNN and ABC. I don't know why I was watching CNN to begin with (I hate it) but I guess now I will never watch either one of them again. They always report so negatively. I am glad to hear today (on Fox News) that many, many evacuees are happy for those that are helping. Especially to the military for getting them out of there.

It is sad that even at a time like this, someone has something to b**ch about. Everyone should be focused on saving lives and helping those that are alive and need the help.
Forget the race, weather they are rich or pooor, who didnt do what fast enough.
I have been through something to this nature. Not as bad, my home is still here, but we did once have to evacuate, leave our homes, sit in 15 hours of traffic only to get 10 miles away from where we started.
Ended up sleeping in our car with Andrew at 4 months old. We then ended up staying at a church with no showers, no beds, only little food and water.
Not once did any of us, black, white, poor or rich complain. We all enjoyed what we did have there and made it through the next 3-4 days! We kept each other company, slept next to each other, gave hugs when needed.
I just wish people would stop complaining about everything!!!
Again, Olivia, I agree with everything you wrote!
Olivia...
Ditto to you!
Amen Olivia!
I couldn't agree more.
Another point I would like to make relating to race etc is. When 9/11 happened AND the black out happened in racially diverse New York (without two days prior warning) Martial Law was not declared. The Black Out in particular left thousands of
Becky and Archie 3/1/04
and baby due Jan 26!
