You might want to try a routine chart. Have him help you put together a list of what needs to be done in the morning before he goes to school. Then post the chart on his bedroom door or wall and tell him you think he is a big boy and can be trusted to follow the routine chart.


Doing the routine chart puts what he needs to get done on his shoulders where it needs to be and off yours. Getting up, getting dressed, helping get his breakfast and eating, brushing hair and teeth, getting his coat, backpack and things ready and lined up by the door are all things that are his responsibility.


A before bed routine chart is a great thing to do also. Part of Colin's before bed routine is to lay out clothes for the next day, boy does this help in the morning. I also lay out my clothes for the next day.
