Why be a SAHM?
| Tue, 07-03-2007 - 1:15pm |
Hi Ladies!
This is my first time posting here. I am doing a message about motherhood at our church's youth bible camp. I'll be talking with the young girls aged 13-18,I am a SAHM myself and I have tons of reasons why I think it's the best choice for our kids.....but I just wanted to pick your brains and listen to some of your stories and reasons for being a SAHM. Thanks for your time and input!

First I have to tell you I am Atheist. So you may have already stopped reading but here is why I SAH.
I from a young adult, 15ish, knew I would want to be home with my child for the first 5 years. I personally know she is cared for and in my parenting style. I have a few views that I don't want to force a nanny or sitter to do. Such as, my daughter is 13 months and potty trained - I started her at 6 months, I believe hitting a child as punishment is hypocritical - saying I spank because I love is wrong, and I make sure she eats veggies, meat, and fruit - theres no need for cookies at her age. And lastly I don't want her hearing about the bible without me. I may choose a few tales and tell them to her as I would Brothers Grimm but I want to encourage individual thought not blind following. JMHO.
I also plan to go back to work part time until she is 16, then I will go back full time. I chose to have her so I should be there for every play, recital, and to stay with her when she is sick.
And hats off to you for the potty training! any tips for a mom trying to get her.... ahem...27 month old to potty train? lol

HI I'm Wendy,
SAHM to Taylor Paige and Craig.
Most religious people feel it is their duty to convert DH and I when they find out. And anything an atheist does is like work of the devil. LOL I'm glad you see past that.
But I put Lexie on the toilet when she started sitting up. I thought if she thought it was normal to go on the potty it would be easier than having her become dependent on a diaper and then train her.
On older children I start with the process of everything, show them the toilet and how it works (some are afraid of the flush), how they wipe, and how to wash their hands. Try getting a soap that has a character on it they like or a bar of soap with a toy in it (a prize for washing every time).
Then every hour for 10 min put them on the potty. Make it fun sing songs, read, or have a certain toy just for when on the potty. For boys cheerios help aim once they move to standing. And remember they can get stubborn with age. So you will need time and patients.
"goodness, the 13-year-olds aren't even old enough to date yet. "
where do you live??? I want to move there! Come ON!!!! LOOK at the stats of the young people (USA) and worldwide, that are getting pregnant at those ages. It happens!!!!! like it or not, it does.
Yay Lesley!!!!!
Nice to see you again!!!!
