Why my kids aren't in daycare *sheesh*

There is an article in the local paper today about a daycare facility here in town - a big name daycare facility that has been here since the 70's - who left a boy behind on a field trip. He was six years old and they had a group of kids they took on a hiking trip up behind the University (where it is hilly and wooded and full of hiking trails). Apparently there were 26 kids and 3 teachers - none of whom took a roll call when they were leaving and apparently couldn't count because they took a head count and assumed all kids were there. They left this kid wandering around in the woods for two hours. TWO HOURS! There are bears, moose, and other wild animals out there! Nobody even knew he was missing until the parents came to pick him up and no one could find him. They had to call the police and a search party had to go out and they did find him, unharmed but scared.
Idiots.
This is something I would hear about on CNN or read on Yahoo! you know? Not something I expected to read about in my local paper. I couldn't imagine the fear I would have if I went to pick up my child from daycare and find out that no one knew where he was!
Needless to say that daycare facility has had their license suspended pending an investigation and is in pretty hot water.

I was a prechool teacher for 5yrs, and during the summer we went on field trips.
It made me angry, and this was supposed to be one of the top-notch daycare centers in town. I just can't believe it.
That's sad that they cut out all of the costs for the kids to enjoy that kind of stuff. They need that, I think. What do they expect those kids to do, sit around and watch television all day?
