Your Best Potty Training Tips!!

I'm working on potty training my 2.5 year old DD and we're not doing so well. I take her every 1/2 hour and she's in training underwear. I don't know what else to do. She sits for a 10-15 minutes and we read books and stuff. I could use some more tips though. Potty training DS at 2.5 was very easy so not sure what else to do.
Thanks,
Jenn

I don't have any tips for you since my 3.5yr old dd still won't go on the potty. Good luck to you, and post back when you find something that works for you!
Hi Jenn,
We just went through this. My girls (twins) turned 3 in September. Last Summer, they started peeing in the potty, because I just kept talking it up and making them try, but they wouldn't do the other thing. They would both ask for pull-ups for that. I would sit them on the potty, and they'd just look at books forever, and do nothing. I'd finally let them off when their little butts were almost numb, and they'd ask for a pull-up to poop in. WTHeck?? LOL!
Aside from their Pull-up moment, they were wearing panties and peeing in the potty just fine. They had a few accidents, but no big deal.
We did this for months. I was so exasperated. Finally, right before Christmas on a Saturday, we were setting up the big tree in the family room and decorating it, and I sat Jenna on the potty. She had asked for a pull-up. I told her not until she sat on the potty for 15 minutes (I wanted to make it half an hour, but DH thought she'd get constipated, LOL! Can you imagine getting constipated from sitting on the potty??). Well, she was so anxious to set up the tree that day, and so excited about it, she didn't want to wait. She decided to take the Big Plunge and poop in the potty after all. Right after Christmas, Tessa followed her lead.
I don't really have any tips, except to keep on making her sit there. Maybe if you're doing something fun (like the Christmas tree was for Jenna), she'll be so anxious to do it, she'll go.
Just wanted you to know I just went through this, tell you what finally worked for us, and let you know I feel your pain :)
My dd is also 2.5 and I am starting to work w/ her to potty train too!
My best tips....
Potty training is a kind of "surprise" thing. They don't quite get it when you start but once they accidently go on the potty and see "hey that's what mom wants" they get it.
Have you tried rewards? When she does go let her call EVERYONE and tell them! Grandma, Dad at work, aunts, etc. I'm not a big fan of giving them candy, but stickers would be a good reward!
Also, buy her some new panties of her choice and tell her she can have them WHEN she is trained. She can't have them now because they have to stay dry. My MIL bought my dd little panties with ruffles on the butt. Dd called them her ruffle butts and she was SO proud when she got to wear them. She showed everyone LOL. My brother, the grandparents, etc. We had to watch that she wasn't showing them off in the grocery store!
Good luck!

I definitely understand your comment about 'surprise'. that's how it's been working with my daughter. She actually pooped on the potty today...all on her own doing. She likes sitting there and reading books and we got lucky!! I'm so glad. I'll take any progress!
