Thanks for sharing the site Dawn, there are a lot around me, some very close, less than a mile. It makes me ad because there are 2 elementary schools very close to me and these offenders are only a mile from the school! It's scary, Im not in the best neighborhood :/
I've checked that. Surprisingly we don't have any registered in our apartment community here. We do have someone a few blocks away, though.
Want to hear a scary story?
When we moved into the house we lived in before we lived where we live now, DH was working night shifts and it was just me at home. My dog was out on the back porch and it was twilight outside. She started barking like crazy. I could not get her to shut up. So finally I went to the sliding door to bring her inside and I heard someone on the edge of our property yelling at my dog, yelling at her to shut up, shut the f--- up. Then as soon as I showed up at the door he started yelling at me to shut my f---ing dog up and so forth. I could not see him from where he was, he was somewhere in the bushes where our yard turned to trees, and he never came out of his "hiding spot". I just told him to get off my property or I'd call the police. Then I brought my dog in and locked the doors and called the police anyway. He had no business being on my land and what was he doing? KWIM? Who does that?
So anyway, the troopers came out a bit later and ended up finding the man who had been in the bushes. Apparently he lived a few houses down from us but kind of kiddy-corner because of the way the property lines were. The next day he came over with his mom and apologized to my husband for causing a problem. After that we didn't hear from them again (that I know of.)
It was toward the end of our time at that house, or shortly after we moved that I saw the show on Oprah talking about this website to check for pedofiles and anyone with a sexual-based offensive past. I plugged in that address and lo and behold the house where that man lived was on the list. I don't remember what it said he had been convicted of but I wonder sometimes if my dog hadn't been out there barking and had alerted me that someone was out there, what might have happened. He was hiding in the bushes for some reason and quite possibly the only thing that scared him off was my dog. Who knows . . .
Geez. I knew this neighborhood wasn't good, but I found 74 just in a 15 minute drive radius. YIKES!!! Some are less than a mile, and we live less than a mile from an elementary school, where my oldest will probably attend this fall. I want to move the....nm... We gotta get outta here.
I check out this site a lot...

Tarra
This is a great site.
I just want to remind everyone that there are some offenses that put people on those lists that may/may not make them a terrible threat to your child.
Thanks for the site, I checked it out and there are 2 that live in my town, I'm glad I live in a small town!
