Your opinion on...Tanning.

I thought it would be fun to occasionally have a "your opinion on..." question. Sometimes it could be something silly or something a little deeper. Please remember though that we all have an opinion, please just state yours without accusing or getting mad. We are all SAHM's but we all come from different parts of the country, have different religions and backgrounds. We should be able to have discussions without hurting one another.
Summer is coming and with that comes the sun. What is your opinion on tanning? Do you tan with the sun, or a tanning bed? Do you use sunless tanning products? Have any bad/good experiences with tanning? Tell us your opinion!

My opinion is...
Well, I tan easily just by walking to the mailbox.
I have to admit that my opinion on this changes quite a bit.
When I was a young child I grew up as a beach baby on Galveston Island. In that area tanning was a big deal and as a young child it was something that was discussed by the women around me quite often. I had numerous aunts (who were in their twenties) who would worry about their tan. Later on we moved closer to my grandmother who had a strong opinion on this. She was the kind that slathered on the sun screen and wore sun hats and long shirts outside. She was a VERY beautiful woman and an ex Rocket. I much admired her beauty especially since she seemed to maintain it so well into her 60's (she died of breast cancer in her late 60's). My grandmother had the most beautiful skin with hardly a wrinkle. She drilled it in me to wear sunscreen and hats and that has carried over into now. I still put on sunscreen every morning and at the Ymca during the summer while the other moms are sunning themselves I am under an umbrella with a hat on, if I am not in the pool with the kids. I do get a little envious when I see someone with a nice tan though and having kids who have a copper color skin makes me sometimes wish that I felt better about tanning. I just can't get my grandmother's advice
I did once use a sun tan lotion and burnt to a crisp and peeled for weeks, never again
Well when I lived in the midwest I would tan alot more in the winter since I needed the sun.
Now that I am in California I only go tanning right before a vacation. I think I spend less time laying out in the sun now then I did before I had it year round.
Last week I went tanning once to a super bed since I was going to Mexico I wanted a base so I would not burn. Well the super bed was bad!! It was a no burn bed which was great I did not burn but spend 20

I used to be a big sun worshipper! (I know it's awful...my mom always made sure I felt guilty about it) Ever since I've been out of college I haven't really had time to lay in the sun. I still like to be tan in the summer, but I tan easily so I don't have to spend too much time in the sun.
I did go tanning before our trip and I'm really glad I did. I didn't feel like I had to spend all day in the sun just to come back looking like I'd been on vacation : )

BTW...Sarah, how was your trip? Hope you guys had a great time!!
I am tanning in a bed right now just to get ready for summer....last summer I had just had Lindsey and was overweight and felt so gross. Well I worked my tail off and lost all of the weight and then about 20 pounds....but my stomach just didn't go back, and my dh knows I am very conscious about it got me a tanning package because he knows I feel better about myself when I am tan.
What?
From me? I guess? lol
