I thought it would be fun to occasionally have a "your opinion on..." question. Sometimes it could be something silly or something a little deeper. Please remember though that we all have an opinion, please just state yours without accusing or getting mad. We are all SAHM's but we all come from different parts of the country, have different religions and backgrounds. We should be able to have discussions without hurting one another. Thanks!
Our topic this week is today's proms. I have been noticing all the limos and cute dresses and prom hair out lately. We have three highschools in my area and proms are going on. When I was a teen my boyfriend at the time and myself skipped prom (which I now regret) and went to parties instead. Of course as a teen I did not care but thinking back I remember that most of the lake houses and condos these parties were at were paid for by parents. They even so generously supplied the kegs. It was like the parents were in competition of who gave their kid the most popular party. Well one of my nephews goes to prom this year and my oldest sister is worrying about prom night. She is very upset over all the parents who are paying for these parties. She said that parents are even paying for their kids to have hotel rooms! My sister is of the mind that she really is not out to help her kid get...uh...get some so she and the mother of the prom date are paying for a limo that only takes them to dinner, the prom and home where my sister and the mother are throwing a "dry" party for some kids.
What do you think in the trends that are happening in regards to todays proms?

When I think back on my prom and the things that I did that night I swear I get nervous to think that one day my daughter will be going to prom.

unfortuanatly, this happens, and did happen when I had my prom 13 yrs ago, so this isn't just a new trend.
At my prom, we went to the dinner dance thing held by the school, but after, everyone got in in limos and went from party to party. We didnt have hotel rooms, no one could afford it, but there was definatly sex and drinking going on. I would not EVER allow my dd to stay out all night on prom night, even if she swore she would be sleeping at her best friends house. I know that stuff can still happen between the time she leaves the house and curfew, but I dont know what some of these parents are thinking. I only hope that we are able to have open communication with her as she grows, and understands right/wrong.
