This is a true conversation that occurred in my (small, rural, conservative) school last week during a committee meeting between an older coach and some teachers. While kind of sad, maybe it will give you a giggle. :)

COACH: What's this HIV that everyone at school has now?

OTHERS AT MEETING: Not HIV! H1N1, the swine flu!

COACH: Well, what's HIV then?

OTHERS: The precursor to AIDs.

COACH: Oh! I've been telling everyone that our baseball coach has HIV!

That *did* make me giggle. It's pretty sad when people in education are that ignorant.

Wheeww! You had me worried there for a minute! Still, he doesn't have a good reason to be so out of touch, but what if he was teaching health and knew so little!

Actually, this one of the lesser worries about ignorance in educators that I have.

One of the history teachers teaches about the "Wetback-American War"! No wonder kids hate coming to my class (Spanish).
