I mentioned in an earlier post that I had applied for a LTS position recently. I am happy to report that I interviewed on Tues. and was offered the job today!. It's a maternity leave so I know I have a job for at least 8 weeks. If she deciedes to stay out longer I'll have it longer.

It's not a permanent job but, it's something and I am happy.

Haven't had it yet. She told me she was out of the building Monday for a conference and we'd meet first thing this morning.  Got there today and she'd sent an e-mail saying her conference was two days instead of one so we'd meet Wednesday at noon. I have a class at noon so we'll see.

Good luck Monday!  I hope she left you a clear outline of her plans, with the schedule, rules, procedures and hints for handling the challenges.

We go all day tomorrow. Next week includes preview days for the books fair. That gives me a break because the PTA is running it and it's in the gym instead of the library. The next week is the book fair and I'll use the time to read the shelves and move some books. We have some shelves that are too full and need to be split and I never got a complete check of everything after we moved the library. Then I have one more week of classes and another week to get everything turned back in and shelved before break. I have two order due to come in any time so I'll have a little more processing to do for one of them. My goal is to have it all done and consider my options over break.

How did your meeting go? I officially start tomorrow but, I went to HR today to fill out paperwork and went to the school to talk to the librarian I am filling in for. I wound up staying for 3 hours until the end of the day. Tomorrow is early dismissal for Thanksgiving break. Next Monday I'll be on my own. Tomorrow is her last day.

At this time I probably plan to stay the year, but I have a meeting with the principal on Tuesday and we have some issues to discuss. She's been known to tell those that challenge her to leave because they are being troublemakers and aren't team players. If I ruffle her feelings with my comments, who knows.  I have also submitted applications for a couple of other jobs but I doubt anything comes from them. If I stay I can say I finished the job of building the library and I've done all I can without support from the staff. I will have some additional purchases to complete after the new budget allocation is available in January and I'll have book fair proceeds to spend also. I still need to inventory and weed some of the junk that was processed before I started last year. They used volunteers for processing and added books from other libraries using their existing labels, Therefore there are still a lot of processing errors to correct. We have duplicates under different call numbers and I still find titles with the wrong labels.

I just know I'm done with K-12. Our state has completely taken the fun and creativity out of education, and besides, no one hires anyone at the top of the scale unless they have a major problem that no one else can handle. Highly unlikely.

Best wishes. When do you start?

Thanks, Sherry. You've always been so kind and supportive. Your situation sounds frustrating. You probably feel like they could put a clerk in there to do what you are currently doing. It's very hard to work in a school where there is no interest or time for a real library program. Will you stick it out until the end of the year? What do you think you will do next? The LMS that is going out on leave was part of the interview team and she spoke very highly of the school and the program so I am hopeful that it will be a good experience however long it lasts. Thanks again for your good wishes.

Great news! Congrats! It's one more little break. You've paid your dues and deserve more. I hope a door opens soon. Maybe the new mom will decide to become a stay-at-home mother.  Maybe another opening will become available after you impress them for a couple of months.  There has to be something. Around here teachers are resigning and retiring in droves.

I have almost completed my obligation to establish the library and get everything organized.  I know this is my last job in K-12 and I am deciding if it's over sooner or later.   I think about you often.  I wish you could take over for me! I'd walk away tomorrow.  Our staff has a short day and they are slammed with meetings and documentation. They've made it clear they want no part of a real library program, research projects, curriculum support or info literacy instruction.  There is no teaching with this job. Ordering, processing and shelving gets pretty boring when it's all there is to do. I see some classes for less than 15 minutes. They rush them in, rush them to grab a book and rush them out. Sad!!!

Thinking positive thoughts and wishes for you.
