I am so sick of society's view on blaming teachers for the problems of the educational system. 9 times out of 10 it is a system problem, not a teacher problem. I was watching a show today called The Talk that was talking about the failures of the education system and they were talking about students being put on a "track" and how the students on the higher track get the good teachers. This just really ticks me off.
I am a first grade teacher and at my school they divide the children up by academic level. One teacher always gets the high achieving students, then there are the average students, and the low achieving students. I really do not like how they do this. The low achieving students need so much one-on-one attention that to put them all in a class together makes impossible for one teacher to give the students all of the attention that they need. And of course, the lower achieving students tend to have more home issues and more behavioral problems (they are low achieving for a reason). So easy to blame the teacher though.
