My boss at the tutoring company called me and said, among other things, that my lesson planning could improve.

Yes, in some cases you DO need to walk on water. It seems to me like there are plenty of teachers that are phoning it in but, they have tenure so they're OK. In a lot of schools, new teachers really do have to be extra special. I don't know why so many people believe that teachers get tenure if they are breathing. That has not been my experience.

I'm sorry you took the criticism so hard. Does it have any merit, or do you think he was just being a pain in the a** and needed something to criticize? Did he give you suggestions? If so just follow them and you'll probably be OK.

Yeah, I have to say I agree with what she said to me.

I need to qualify my remarks, because they may come out unnecessarily harsh. I have been teaching since 1987. Yep, I am old. I have never, ever, used the same lesson plan the same way twice. I tweak it between classes, for crying out loud, depending upon the needs and personalities of the students. Lesson planning can always improve. ABSOFRIGGINGLUTELY. There is never 'good enough.'

No, I wouldn't take it too hard (easier said than done!). I would follow through with suggestions and then maybe set up a meeting in a few weeks to follow up on how your boss feels that you are doing with these. That will show your willingness to work with suggestions and then you can also gage how your boss is feeling about what you are doing with the suggestions and perhaps ease some of your anxiety.
