I have a MySpace page, however, I keep it so vague and under a pseudonym, students would be hard-pressed to find it. I don't post pictures and I don't post anything that could easily identify my location. I also don't allow students to add me. There are way too many teachers who cross the boundaries between appropriate and inappropriate with MySpace and Facebook and other social networking sites. With that said, I do know of student council advisers who set up Facebook pages a means to communicate with their members and are able to do so in a professional manner.

Nooooo. I have a lot more to do than keep up with MySpace or Facebook. My daughters have both, but my friends and other family aren't in to them.

I have a Facebook page...and I'm probably on there everyday! I use my name but everything is set to private so that only my friends can see. Oddly enough, just the other day a parent of a former student sent me a message to add her so she could see pics of my son. I noticed that another teacher at our school added her. I've just left it for the time being. Sure, we are the same age and have a good (but professional) relationship, but I don't think I want her to see all my pictures and my business. I do have pictures up of family and friends and even some pictures from St. Pats day where I am happily drinking away ;)

I just wouldn't want her kids or other parents access to my "private" life. Maybe that sounds silly!

The scary thing is, even if you set your profile to only be seen by friends, there are ways around those measures if someone truly wanted to see what was on your page. That's the main reason I keep things vague and I don't post anything identifiable about myself.

I like it, and I'm there often too :) However, it is set to 'Friends Only' and I have few pictures on there. They are very simple pics.

Not silly at all, IMO. I try to keep my personal life separate from my professional life.

I do know people who are not on Facebook but whose pics are still there, since they were 'tagged' in pics by their friends.

I don't do Myspace or Facebook. Here on iVillage is as far as I put out who I am purposefully. The thought of parents or kids finding an entire page on me creepy.
