Pepsichick's post about her new job prompted me to start this poll. I am wondering how many people are in schools with the same kind of policies!

My current school allows some teachers to keep their keys over the summer, but mostly not. I have access because I am the webmaster, and also because they do not use my room (choir room) for summer school classes. All teachers have an alarm code, however, and can get into the building before/after the custodians leave and on weekends. Those who don't keep their keys can pick them up as soon as the office re-opens in August - about three weeks before school starts.

I would be in trouble if I couldn't get into the building until an hour before school starts! I just am not productive after school, so I get most of my prep done before. I am usually there two hours before start time.

I've always had keys in every school I've worked in. In a few of my buildings they asked us to turn them in each year before summer break, but if you wanted to keep them they recorded that you had a set and that was it. I have keys now that get me in our building, the department office, mailroom, my classroom
