Teachers go on duty Wednesday, but many of us were there today prepping our classrooms. I stopped to talk to quite a few while I was there, and we are all feeling frazzled. Nobody knows what's going on because the principal hasn't given us a schedule yet. Everything we had planned is suddenly trashed, and we are 'changing things.' Two teachers found out last Thursday that they will be teaching something different than what they thought they were and are frantically trying to get things together at the last minute.

After a stressful year last year, I started this year thinking that I need to apply for another job for next year. I guess I'm not alone.

I hope things settle down once the students arrive.

Sometimes the signs keep saying it's time to go. If you're starting out stressed and frazzled I think it would be hard to ignore the message.

Actually, I did sort of get a new assignment at the last minute. I'm still teaching 5th grade, but now I'm teaching 3 subjects that I wasn't planning on teaching. I guess I'll be learning some new curriculum this year.

Thanks for the info on jobs. I plan on dusting off and updating that resume, and getting applications filled out. We'll see what happens.

I think most of us at my school agree that it's time for the boss to retire.....

I wanted you to know you are not alone. I will be teaching something different than what I was promised. So it looks like I will be applying for a new job in the Spring for next year as well. I totally understand...Lezza

Thanks, Lezza - tomorrow is my first day of school, and I still don't have a firm schedule yet. Sigh. Hopefully what I have planned will work out. BUT, the parents and students came in today to drop off their kid's stuff, and I was asked over and over again..."When will they have________ (PE, Art, etc)." I felt like an idiot saying, "I don't know, but I think it will be on _____."

Way to make a first impression....

You are welcome. You will do great. We all survive our first days somehow! Hopefully in the morning you will get your schedule before the kids get there. If not I would tell the parents you will find it out for them later...something like that. There is nothing wrong with the words "I think". That is a safe way to handle it. Have a great first day!
