First time teacher - any advice?
| Fri, 07-09-2004 - 12:00am |
Hey Ladies and Gents!!
In a few more weeks I'll be in Teacher's college and will be starting my practicum. My question to you (or anyone who will listen!!) is what should I know during this period of learning? Any information or tips that you have or would have liked to have known while you were in teacher's college? Any advice at all whatsoever? I'm confident that I'll be fine, but knowing that I'm going to be in a classroom soon is making me awfully nervous.
Anything that you could suggest would be GREATLY appreciated.
Thanks all!!
Jen
P.S. I'm enrolled in the primary/junior division. =)
Welcome, Jen and good luck with your practicum. My biggest point of advice would be to listen to your collaborating teacher and be open to advice and criticism.
In addtion, while you're in your practicum, see if you can observe as many other teachers as possible, whether it's in your subject/grade level or not. You may be able to pick up quite a lot as far as classroom management and organization. Once you get a job, it's really hard to get out of your room to see what others are doin. It will also be good networking for later on when you need references.
Good luck!
Andrea
