Frustrated!

Last week my oldest dd told me that her friends mother's friend who works at a local magnet school said there is an opening for a librarian in their school and they can't find anyone. I had seen that there were openings in the district but, didn't apply because I didn't know the level and didn't really want to work there. However, since it's a magnet school, it is much nicer than most of the schools in that city.

I filled out an online application and also sent an email directly to the principal with a resume and cover letter. Yesterday an administrator in the school called me to set up an interview. I wasn't home so dd #2 called to give me the message. I call her back and the first thing she says to me is "we've been looking all summer but, no one wants the job because we won't pay above step 3" I told her that I would still be interested. It's a substantial pay cut for me but, I've been unemployed for a year now and if I take a job in a public library, it'll pay even less than THAT. So she tells me to hold on she has to see when the principal is available. I hold for a minute or 2. She comes back and says the principal is not there. She needs to call me back. It'll probably be tomorrow. (school starts Monday) So today I'm taking dd #2 back to college and I call in for messages every 2 hours and NO CALL! What the heck!? When she said probably tomorrow, I assumed she meant as opposed to later that day. I really don't know what to think now. Isn't that strange? So I'm thinking, did they change their mind between yesterday and today, or are they just that non-chalant about filling vacancies in their school.

If you've read this whole thing, thanks for listening to my vent!

I'd be frustrated, too.

Yeah I totally understand. You wait forever to either be rejected or neglected. Its crazy. Give it until Monday and then just move on. PS, the principal t at my school had openings and knew I was qualified and hired someone else. Didnt even consider me and I sent her my credentials and had all the training that this new teache rmissed. Trust me, they often had their minds set on someone from the beginning. Good luck!!

That is awful! I can't believe you've been waiting since February. I don't expect much from potential employers. It's been my experience that common courtesy is anything but common, but this situation takes the cake.
Good luck with your interview on Monday!

DH does human resources for his school district. He hires the non-certified people and even he is surprised, although he also said it could be any one of a number of reasons why this happened. As if I didn't already feel bad enough about this whole job hunting situation, this just adds to it.

Wow, you must be pissed! That's pretty insulting. I just don't understand people sometimes. It's so hard not to take things personally but, I guess administrators don't feel the need to treat people like human beings.
