Hi! I am sorta new to this board. I am switching careers and am starting this fall as a sub. (I was not a licensed teacher before, but have been in early education for approx 10 yrs) School here started last week. I am so pleased to see my schedule filling up. It appears that I will get enough work days from scheduled absenses that I won't have to worry about getting those early morning calls. YEAH! (wasn't looking forward to those!) I have even had a few teacher that I have worked w/ in the past request me which is awesome. I am so nervous however. I don't want to mess this up.

I am working all over our district. I know that many subs in our small town specialize w/ age groups. I thought I would too. However, honestly, the better schedules are w/ the older kids. So now I am working at all age levels in the next month. I have special ed 4-6 grade (the at need kids) as my first assign. Whew. Talk about jumping in. I have no idea what to expect, but I do know some of the aids in that room and I am sure they will help me if I need it.

Make a set of sub kits for age /grade levels. Include educational but fun activities that can keep them engaged and out of trouble if you get there and find no plans or not enough content

Along with activities include videos (just in case, although they should be a last resort), stickers, candy, pens, pencils.
