Wow...lots of exciting news!!!!
Congrats to your students for their test results...and congrats to get 2nd instead of K, and good for them for sticking up for you enough to not make you deal with the parents issue (as a first-year teacher last year, I found parents my toughest issue--not to mention teaching as an outsider in a small town which I think magnified the issue).
LOL...well, at least you KNOW them.
I was the opposite, I was not very strict, and I let the parents get to me. I'm praying that I don't go spineless again this year.
I'll have a brand-new group. I only know the parents of 3 students right now (there may be more students with siblings that I taught last year that I just don't know about). One set of parents I'm excited about...I taught their twins last year. Another parent is the secretary at the school and another parent is the assistant principal (who just called me about another position!) at another school who I may be looking for favors from in the future...lol.
OO you can't do that.. You have to set rules in your class. I did that from the first day, and I think that's why parents didn't like me.
Great news! Now you can start on all the new fun stuff for second. I like second better than K or 1 because they are still young, but you can do so much more since they have the basics under control. I did one year of second a long time ago, and they were so great. I had to transfer schools due to enrollment changes so I couldn't keep second.
