I have a very difficult decision coming my way soon and it would help me if I could get some perspective from people who have nothing to gain or lose form the decision I make.

So you would only move if you got the job, right? If you get the job, just make sure it is a good place to work. Do as much research as you can. Two years ago I took a job closer to home. I didn't have to move or anything, but I was tenured and I took this new job. It turns out the administrators are crazy dictators and I was let go for daring to express an opinion contrary to my principal's. Now I'm unemployed in the worst job market for teachers in decades.

So I would say go for it if you're willing to take a risk. What happened to me is pretty unusual but it's made me very risk averse. But what you're proposing sounds reasonable.

Guili makes a good point. Know the school and the district well before you decide to jump. You won't be a position to make more changes if you find out that the negatives outweigh the positives.

As for the other considerations, I once took a job 5 hours away and my husband and I were apart for several months until he could find a job in the new area. It wasn't ideal, but we managed. The girls were with me and he came on the weekends.

I don't count the building conditions
