*Holiday* catch-up!

Finished my long term SS sub spot at the jr hi 11/9; drove to D34's in Southern CA & did 1/2 week w/g'kids; got home in time to do laundry & pack (keeping it to airplane carry-on) for a holiday visit at my folks in Iowa w/sis & BIL from Maine & S22 in from Boston (included an excellent family reunion w/an Uncle's family back there); from which we returned nite before yesterday.

During this trek I took the time to visit the local jr hi there to observe a couple math classes & talk w/the teachers. I am definitely going to make that a part of my travels to different parts of the country in the future. The differences from our school were palpable & enlightening - more in another post...

Yesterday caught up on bills & laundry, restocked groceries (S19 watched the home front while we were gone!). Today, hope to catch up on some minor cleaning & repair - dogs & cats of our own + a friend dropped off his dog one weekend they were in town. It was prearranged, but they're like kids & we were gone...:( !; & my mammogram to finish off my annual physical which has been stretched out & rescheduled to fit around the teaching schedule the last 6 months.

Then maybe I can start some yardwork & house catchup from the last 6 months - tho it's time to get out Xmas stuff & get ready for Xmas (which I have just barely started). I head off to D34's for another week of G'ma duty next Wednesday & S22 will be heading home for winter break after the 16th. I can't believe it's already December - I've lost another 1/2 a year. A young math teacher I'm sort of mentoring has let me know her neighboring 7th gr math teacher gave notice he's leaving EOQ - which means they are in need of a math teacher to finish out the school year starting January - & I am actually considering it !?!?!?!? Someone kick me...:)

My yard's half dead which is a usual occurrence for the Winter, tho never did finish all of the last mowing so the last of the Fall watering & cleanup never got done going into it. The weeds are again overtaking my newest patio garden addition. I still have moldy books "airing" on the patio from my last basement flooding episode (forgot the hose was on in the patio planter above it! - back in ?September-October?). S19's got us hooked up for borrowing a log splitter (a Dad of a friend of his - needs a small weld repair & a tire) so we can finally use our downed trees in the fireplaces. Our window order is in & retrofitting will begin Monday, 12/21. It appears the water heater is leaking. And, I'm wanting to get on w/ripping out the carpet (especially after a few more weeks w/our oldy moldy cats using the dining room as a catbox - arghh!!). Haven't touched my quilting since last quarter break beginning of October - tho did manage to put a dent in folding fabrics into new storage arrangement in my sewing room & have found the backing fabric from England for my Poppy quilt (only going on 10+ yrs now). I did read the latest Jodi Picoult book while traveling & have started the newest installment of Diana Gabaldon's Outlander series, "An Echo in the Bone", (D34 got an extra copy) tho I purposely didn't take it w/me as I want to savor the read, it will be at least another year before the next installment in the series is available.

Well I've finished my morning coffee, warmed up my office (new space heater), & used up another hour or so trying to play catch up here in computer land as I haven't been on a computer in a couple weeks. Gotta get my shower & get on w/my day. Hope your holidays have started off well!

Once a teacher always a teacher! Well, not always. You might add dedicated to that description.
