How many do you have?

So I was wondering how many students you have each day. What grade do you teach? Are your class sizes different from normal years? How are you liking it so far?

As for me, I'm loving it! Usually I have to fight to make sure Guidance doesn't add too many kids. According to the state, we're only allowed 150 kids per day, and every year they've put 155 or 160 until I complain enough. This year, however, I only have 135 11th and 12th graders! My classes are so much smaller. My biggest class only has 30! I really appreciate the new Guidance Counselor we have this year!

Hi

It was great to hear you got a job this year. That seems like alot of students for the type of kids you work with....may I ask what an MT is. I have life skills with 10 and I thought that was alot.

This year I am teaching 5th grade and I have 27 students. My first year teaching I had 34 and eleven of them were resource students and we didn't have a resource teacher. It sucked! Last year I taught 6th grade and all of my classes had at least 31 kids. It was hard! I am feeling great this year, but our district is still growing and new kids are moving in everyday.

I am very busy this year. We have been in school for 2 weeks and we have had over 200 new students register. I have 15 students all with ASD most are grades 3-5 and I have one lonely 1st grader. In past years I have had 6-8 students with 2 assistants. This year I only have one assistant because of budget cuts. The county says that enrollment is down so they had to cut positions. Hello! Has no one looked at the number of kids in these ASD classes?

I am a lurker on here, but had to post to this.

I teach 3rd grade in a public school. Last year each (5 classes) 3rd grade had 23-24 students. This year we are all at 25-26 with new students still being registered as I left on Friday- we start Tuesday. Our school has made AYP- only one in the district- so we have had many transfer students from the other 2 ES in the district. Unfortunately, there is no cutoff date for switching schools due to AYP and so I have no idea how many will actually wind up in my room.

I teach 5th grade. Our class max is supposed to be 25 kids, but I usually have 20-22. This year I have 16. Yep. 16!! It's a private school, and enrollment is down due to the economy. Should be an interesting year....
