Lower Schools or HS

I have taught in the HS of a private school for 12 years. I love it! BUT my department head is very difficult to work with. I have knows that for 12 years. She is a nice person but is very obsessive compulsive and her method of leadership is often harrassing. She questions my professionalism all the time. is so obsessive about paper work and makes up her own rules that the school doesn't even have. I love this school and LOVE the students I teach. She often comes in to my room to ask me stupid questions about paper work etc. (one time she came in to my classroom in the middle of class to find out if I had gotten my projector I ordered) I hate that. She questions my tests and goes through them with a fine tooth comb. etc. I am a very good teacher and the kids like my class. in addition to this but separate from her I have so much paper work (grading, college rec forms, junior rec forms, grade reports) that I am overwhelmed. I have 3 children at home under the age of 8. They also go to the school that I teach. Here is my question: I have recently found out that there might be a position opening in the lower grades. This would be the same pay, smaller classes, younger kids, about 1/4 of the paper work AND I wouldn't have to work with my Department head any more. I could focus on the real job. TEACHING! which is what I use to be happy doing. What are your thoughts? I am certified PK-12th grade and teach French.
I already talked to the principal of the Lower grades and she was so excited but SWORE not to say anything because I don't want my dept. head to find out yet. The principal of the lower grades said "I have big plans for you." She wants to expand the program. it is quiet an oppertunity for me!

I think satisfaction and less stress are important. You wouldn't be leaving the school. You would still have the same group of friends and co-workers, and you would be out from under the scrutiny of the dept head.

Personally, I have taught at both elementary & secondary schools, and I much prefer teaching the HS kids.

However, based on everything you've told us, it really does sound like a great opportunity for you, and has the added bonus of removing you from a situation with a scary dept. head.

Good luck & let us know how it works out for you,

Angela
