Naive Idealism?

It seems that several of us are frustrated by the state of our careers right now and considering other options. So.... while reading my students' discussion board posts I've discovered some of those naive idealistic ideas that come with inexperience. For example:



(1) I plan to make regular home visits to improve communication with my students' parents and get to understand them better.



(2) I will always design lesson plans that meet my student's individual needs and differences. If I don't do this I am not acting as

The hardest lesson I've learned so far is that people I will call bad, namely, people who have very strong desires for power and control (power in particular), have a tendency to seek out positions in school administration.

Amen! I always tell my students that it's not about the grade or the statics on the standardized test reports.

That whole list made me laugh, but whoever wrote number 4, is not fit to be a teacher. Adults and children can't be friends because they are not on equal footing.

Good advice, Miss GT! Those gems came from my undergrads who are three weeks in to the course. I hope they don't actually believe all of it. Many try to write what they think I want to hear or what their classmates will agree with.
