Good luck!!!! I have my fingers and toes crossed for you. If you get a job, it'll give me hope the people in our decade are still employable.

Teaching is a different ball game north of the border.

Ok, maybe I'm old to you but, I just turned 50. I don't consider myself old and I just graduated from library school 12 years ago so I have the same knowledge as someone in their early 30's. I feel for you but where I live, teachers rarely go more than their max pension time. It's 35yrs in CT where I live. After that, you can't add much to your pension so it's like working at Walmart as one fellow teacher's dh said to her.
In public libraries, there is a lot of talk about people staying past retirement age because they don't have the same generous pension fund that teachers have. In fact I see it in my own public library. The head of reference looks like he's 102. He is all white and can barely get up out of his chair to help people. Whenever I go in there, I say "it's time to retire now." Of course I don't say that to him but, I would like a chance at his job so I know how you feel. Unfortunately, the economy is so bad now that people are afraid to retire, I think.

No, I don't consider 50 to be old.

Yes we are. Technology has killed work ethic on so many levels.
