Phonics of boy entering kindergarten

Hi everyone

I've never posted here before but I read the threads all the time! My name is Amy and I am a teacher for SXI (physically and mentally impaired) preschoolers. I also have two boys, Rodney and Davy. They are both adopted and have special needs to varying degrees.

Davy will be going to kindergarten this coming fall. He was in the Michigan School Readiness program for preschool which uses the highschope approach ( So far he has learned his letters but not their sounds. Is there a phonics program I could purchas so I could work on letter sounds over the summer? Davy is ADHD and has mild lead poisoning from being in abandoned buildings when he was a baby. He is slow to learn things so I need something with LOTS of repitition. TIA-Amy

Hi, Amy: I'm not as up to date on the current phonics programs that are out there for pre-K as others might be. Have you been to a local teacher's store or looked on-line?

Woa! They may be entitled to special services. Have they undergone evaluations? I would definately go with the team approach on this.

Thanks everyone

Yes both boys have been evaluated and both recieve services. For Davy I got the leapfrog fridge toy and there is a leapfrog game on their website I would love to get. I also have the leapfrog videos-one that teaches the letter sounds, one that teaches numbers, and one for my older son that teaches about silent E.

The coolest thing I found was from V tech-the write and learn light board. The board has light up dots on it for him to trace so he can learn how to write his letters. It has lots of letter and math games on it too.
