OK, before I left on Thursday for the Ontario Music Educators' Assoc. Conference I've been attending every year, I got the results back for my sub list interview.

Things like this can drive you crazy, but it is probably less you and more them. More and more schools are using online assessment questions and screening interviews with lots of theoretical and psychological questions. They see them as personality profiles, professional skills assessments etc., They are sold by the companies as tools that allow schools to screen for specific skills.

Hi Beth! I graduated in 2005, and didn't get on the sub-list until 2006. I had a 4.0 GPA from College, and I still don't have a part-time job. My sister-in-law, who had a 60 average has a full-time job right after College, along with her seven Italian family members. My board is fustrating because they base hiring on who you know, and very little, on your experience.

Music is a wonderful asset to have and you should have been hired. I have my a masters in ED, a bachelors, and an ECE diploma, special part 1, primary ed part 1, reading part 1, and intermediate history. I can not secure a permanent or LTO job at my board. I did in Toronto, but not down here. I just don't think it's fair how they hire. I wish they'd go by seniority list, but they don't. I think I'll be a supply teacher for the rest of my life.

I wish you luck. You never know. I received the same letter, and then was called back in. Don't get your hopes down. Are you doing Catholic or Public or French Public/Catholic? Good luck!

Hi Sarah, thanks for your reply and welcome to the teacher board!

This interview I just did was for the Halton public board.

Hi Beth! How are you?

First off, I had an interview with the Halton Catholic board and it was with a recruiter. I didn't even get put on the list. I haven't applied to Halton Public. I'm not sure how it works. I'm assuming you live in Halton? May I suggest for you to apply to the Dufferin-Peel Catholic School Board and Peel School Board? I worked on their boards for about three years. My first year, I had four LTO's in a row, and the principal I worked with is a high-ranking superintendent now. A beautiful man, very caring. Also, the Peel Board was fantastic. If you aren't worried about driving, I would suggest going there. They are both amazing boards.

It just so happens that I have volunteered with Dufferin-Peel Catholic.
