Anyone who's a regular poster on the board knows that my current charter school leaves something to be desired.

Well…. I don’t post here much, but I have read a little about your current school; take my thoughts with a grain of salt…. I say seriously consider looking for an opportunity, it doesn’t mean you have to take it right?… I can’t say I changed from a charter to public, but I did change counties (or districts if you will) the year we got married and also moved during the new school year, so talk about some stress.

I think you have to look. You don't want an opportunity to pass you by. You can always pass on the offer if it isn't a major improvement. Changing jobs seems scary until you actually do it.

Hi,
I too was in a similar situation. Although, not teaching at a charter school I was in a pretty rough inner-city school that had budget issues and tough students. I was getting married at the end of the following school year but I really didn't think I could handle another year at this first school. The staff was great but the teaching conditions were not. I applied for another job over the summer and got an offer on Aug 1. The new teaching position was for a suburban school district in the town I grew up. I took the position and taught there for six years before leaving for more pay at my current school. I never regretted leaving although I did miss many of the kids and the staff. It is very hard teaching science w/ no supplies and unruly students. Ultimately, it's the students you teach that make the difference since you spend so much time w/ them. Good luck! I say if you see something good then take a chance! You have a while to plan as much as you can for your wedding now.

I went from 9th grade in one building to 5th grade in another building after getting married (got hitched in August 07).
