Hi

I am about to try to interview for elem SPED teaching positions. That trick question "What is your weakness? always throws me for a loop. Any suggestions for the answer to that question that you have used in the past?

Thanks. Lezza

As someone who has been asking the questions I like to see honesty and self reflection. If you have a weakness turn it into a positive through effort and explanation. In my case I always say I'm very critical and hard on myself. That has caused me to become a better reader and researcher so that I am aware of how to deal with my frustrations and things I see as failures. I look at what others have done, what's happening in other places and judge myself more accurately. I use the knowledge to improve my methods and programs.

I don't want to hear a teacher say they are weak in math skills or don't know history very well. That's honest, but shows lack of effort to improve. If they aren't acting on their weakness to improve it

Hi

Thanks for the clarification. I now understand how to turn a weakness into something positive. There have been so many tricky interview questions to answer and that has always been one of them. I will let you know how the job fairs go. I have been teaching secondary so long, I just hope I get to make the switch back to elementary. We shall see...Lezza
