I found this quote and thought it really described what I try to teach in eductional teachnolgy and instructional design courses:

The illiterate of the 21st century will not be those who cannot read and write, but those who cannot learn, unlearn, and relearn.--Alvin Toffler

At the same time it also says a lot about the state of things today. We worry so much about teaching the basics and teaching the test, that we never give students a chance to learn to think, solve problems, be creative and become life-long learners who love new knowledge. We give the impression that learning the test info is the key to being a literate, successful

Love the quote, my favorite quote is by Malcolm X, "Education is the passport to the future, for tomorrow belongs to those who prepare for it today" ....

Somehow that statement never gets old. I really don't know what to say about this upcoming generation, it's like they hate to learn. I have never met so many complaining, whiners in all my life, "why we have to learn this" Um, it's life, it's history, it's what you need to survive this life.....

Anyone who questions learning to me has a big problem. Learning is inate and automatic,we do it whether we want to or not,so why question it.....

Then you want the world to consider you to be an intelligent person and yet you lack basic knowledge. Can't have it both ways......

This new generation maybe more technologically savvy than us, but we will always be more creative because we achieved MORE with far LESS than what they have...

So true! We had to entertain ourselves. I watched TV and read a lot. I also did a lot of imagination things. Our toys enabled us to do that.
