WE MADE IT!!!

I'm happy to report that school has ended and no children were harmed in the educational process. Just don't ask me about the close calls! :-)

Our principal made the teachers walk the kids off school grounds this last week of school. I have never in my life heard of that... I always thought that once they left school property, what they did was THEIR business. Am I wrong?

My bestest friend will be here in less than 12 hours and I have turned into the Great American Cleaning Machine.

Let the festivities begin!

I'm done too! We were out at 11:45 yesterday, I spent two hours finishing packing up (fudged a little on some of the packing), then went to our after school party. It was fun. I came home very, very tired from sun and alcohol, took a nap, then vegged until bedtime. Woke up at 11:45 this morning! I can't believe I was that tired!

Grad school and volleyball camp start next week, so I'm not home free. I'm just glad that I don't have to be responsible for anyone but ME for a few months!

We always have teachers on duty outside the intermediate doors to get the kids off the property. They are not allowed to hang around and play basketball, trade pokemon cards, or whatever else they may wish to do. They must leave the school property. This is a liability issue. My principal and I just discussed this today (as Friday is my day on duty out there) and he was saying that we have a good case if something were to happen, because they were dismissed and told to go home, but there are parents who would try to sue anyway because they'd say we didn't protect them until they left school property.

I've seen some of the craziest lawsuits come through my buildings this year, so nothing would surprise me at this point. All were dismissed after investigations by the police, but the point is that people tried to bring them about.

SUMMER PLANS: drive home, have fun.

DUTY STATIONS: the teachers at my school had to walk to the gas station, park and other places across the street -- OFF school property to make sure the kids were all right. I always thought that once they were off the property, they were their own responsiblity?

Did they send anyone to make sure you got back to school safely? I've never heard of that one. Anyway, I hope you have a great summer. Don't forget to check in here, even if you're trying to put school out of your mind right now! LOL

Relax and enjoy!

Hmmmmmmm -- I'd take a long look at your Negotiated Agreement and see if they can really enforce you to be off school property still supervising kids.

Congrats on the end of the year! :)

All the teachers were walking in groups of 3 or more... and the principals were out with us, so it was ok.

The neighborhood isn't BAD, but I found out later that the high schools released before the middle schools, so we had to make sure the kids were ok... there were some who were targets of the high schoolers.

How's your summer going, Sherry? I'm trying not to think of school but I find it hard to disconnect my mind from what I plan to do this fall...

I don't know if we have a Negotiated Agreement... there is no teachers' union where I am.
