New to the board and I am curious as to what everyone teaches, at what grade level, your location and how long have you taught (and maybe a little about you)? I have been teaching PE for 11 years, in Illinois, I have taught all grade levels but am currently at the middle school teaching all girls! I LOVE IT!! I have been married for almost 10 years to another PE teacher, we have 2 boys (4 and 18 mo.) and are expecting another boy in April! Hope to hear from you! Happy Holidays! Karrie

I'm a librarian in a HS. I have also been a MS librarian. This is my second career in education. I started out as a teacher of the deaf, which I did for 5 yrs. I took 10yrs off to stay home with my kids and after I got my MLS I returned as a librarian which I have been doing for 6yrs.

I am glad that you are integrating that into their studies. Unfortunatly, I work with some teachers who refuse to change their way of teaching and I cannot get them to agree with me for the need of heart rate monitors and the "new" style of fitness testing. One gentleman that I work with uses the same lesson plans he has used for years and refuses to change. He believes that a heart rate monitor on kids while they exercise is going to cause them to have a heart attack!!! Can you believe what I work with here? Since I am not on tenure I say nothing but try to promote the need for it, luckily we just completed a Diabetes Heart Walk at our school and we were granted $600 in money...I am buying some HRM!!! I think you have most of the Tech covered and I am glad you are using this in your curriculm! Karrie

Thanks for your input! I know what you're saying. As a consultant for the DOE, I developed staff training for K-12 schools. There were many teachers in my classes that were so closed-minded and set in their ways. They refused to try anything new or consider that there could be a better way.

I am in my second year at an alternative HS which is a residential treatment center for adolescent males including a sexual offender unit.

I teach 5 different subjects.
Many of the kids have severe mental disorders.
Minds and lives ripped to shreds---

Somedays I am on top of the world with them, others down in the pits...

I teach 7th and 8th grade "resource" in Louisiana. I've been at this school since 1988. That's a long time...

I would love to teach all boys! I have 2 boys - ages 8 and 10.

Hi Karrie,

I teach biology at the high school level in Ontario, Canada. This year I have all 11th & 12th grade, but some years I also teach 9th & 10th, which is general science. The odd year I also do math, but I prefer Science.

I have been teaching 10+ years (losing count!) and have been married for over 4 years now. My DH & I met in the 8th grade, but didn't start dating until age 30. We have one DD, Sonja, who is 20 months.

Happy Holidays!!

I'm Tamie. I am in my third year teaching 4th grade at a private school. Before that I taught 5th and 6th grade science/math in a charter school for 5 years. I'm so happy to be out of the charter system!
