What grade do you estimate w/ money?

Hello Ladies,

I am currently an education major and in my classes we're working on different lesson plan ideas and we each have to present one in either math or science.

I am planning on doing math and estimation with money. I was going to read if you give a cat a cupcake and then have the students list the places/objects cat went/wanted. I planned on breaking them up into 4 groups, giving each group 2 objects from the story, and then asking them to estimate what the cost is. Then I would do a price is right sort of thing and have price tags with the actual retail value and see how close we get. Then I would add up our estimated costs, add up our retail values and then subtract the two to show how close we were.

Now my question is, is this too hard for 3rd-4th grade?

Any suggestions would be great!

Thanks!

Hi, Jaclyn: Third and fourth graders estimate with money. It all depends on the amounts and what you ask them to round to.
