This is a standardized test prep question given to Grade 2 students. What is the correct answer?
What is the main idea of this paragraph?
Scientists are not sure why dinosaurs no longer exist. Some say a big space rock struck the earth. The earth shook and volcanoes spewed hot
Never mind what the answer is.
If I get it wrong do have to repeat 2nd grade? LOL! I think the answer is A. Didn't we all learn that the main idea of the paragraph is usually the first sentence? The next 3 sentences just support the first one as they give examples of the possibilities.
The answer A is a rewording of the first sentence but, it may be too hard for a 2nd grader. Many kids, even in older grades may find this difficult judging by my experience of having kids find information in written text. If it doesn't slap them in the face, then they can't find it and they will say it's not there.
Ah, yes! Beth made a great point that it is all
The answer is A.
