You really shouldnt be terrified. Its uncomfortable, but if you can have sex then you can handle an internal exam im sure. As far as bleeding, it all depends on your cervix. Some cervix's are more sensitive and you may have a tiny bit of spotting but that is it. Its really not so bad. I mean its annoying getting it done but its over in like a min.
If you are terrified, how are you going to be going into labor. For me i was worried about the pain but you get so close to the end you want to have the baby out already and you really don't think about how bad its going to hurt, and don't care. You normally wont even care if your exposed to everyone when you push. I knew i wanted my fiance in the room, but i wasn't sure if i wanted my mom in the room, then after i was in labor I told my grandma, aunt, and my fiance's mother that they could stay if they wanted. That is how much i didn't care. I just wanted her out! lol

I hope all goes well though. When you get scared you tense up, and the more tense you are it will hurt worse too by the way.
Good luck

The doctor will check to make sure everything is okay. It can be painful. So definitely prepare for that just in case. It's not intense pain, or at least it wasn't for me. It was mainly uncomfortable but during the last two that I got before having my daughter they hurt. It's all over very quickly though so it's easily managed. Also, some women do have spotting afterwards while others don't. I did have some spotting. It was brownish like at the end of your period and it was done usually within a few hours.

It's hard to tell you not to be nervous as I'm sure no matter what we say you still will be but it really isn't all that bad and it's over so fast. Doctor's know that it is often uncomfortable to be checked during late pregnancy so they try and to it all very quickly. I know this may sound a little silly but spearmint and peppermint have a natural calming affect on the body so maybe try chewing some gum or having a piece of hard candy. It's not much but it may provide you with a little bit of a distraction and calming feeling. These also helped me when I was nauseous.

my doctor actually didnt do it until 38 weeks and that was the day i went in to get induced. he wanted to see if i was effaced or dialated at all. in the hospital i think i was only checked like 3-4 times total while being induced and labor.

My internal exams never REALLY hurt. I mean, it is always a little bit uncomfortable but they do it so often that they could probably give one in their sleep lol! I only had one nurse in the hospital actually hurt me & I had SOOO many internal exams because of my preterm labor. The only other time it ever hurt pretty bad was when my doctor stripped my membranes & that was like, less than 3 second of pain...I did not even have time to cringe haha. On my final exam in the doctors office, my doctor could feel Benjamin's soft spot he was so low! :]

Blah, blah blah, I always type too much haha Sorry!!!!!!

Ps. Have fun at the shower tomorrow!!! Take pictures for us!
