Too young to breastfeed?

I haven't been on here much at all lately. But I'm back-sorta. Brief update- my grandparents got custody of me, I came home from the maternity place where I was, and I'm seriously ready to pop. Okay so here's the point of my post. I talked to my mom for the first time in almost 6 months the other day and she has suddenly become supportive but when I told her of my plans to breastfeed she said "You're too young" about 50 times. In the public's eyes I'm too young (15) to even be a mom but why should I deny my child the health benifits she deserves because of what other people think? In no way did her opinion effect my decision I just wanted to get some opinions to see what you guys think as teen/ breastfeeding moms. Obviously the opinion of the public is not what I harbor my life over because if it was I would not be pregnant right now. So what do you guys think of this?

If you can have a baby, you can breastfeed. :)

Have you been to the Breastfeeding board yet? I know you'll find a ton of support and help there!

That's not even true AT ALL. Age doesn't matter when it comes to breastfeeding. If you can have a baby, you can breastfeed. Shea breastfeeds, and she only turned 15 a month before she had Alysha.

That's the stupidest reason not to breast feed. That's worse then "it will make my boobs sag" when fyi, PREGNANCY makes your boobs sag, NOT breastfeeding. If you are old enough to have a baby you're old enough to produce breast milk. It's ultimately your choice and I am glad you choice to do what was best for you and your baby. I am going to breastfeed as well.

Yes you can breastfeed but if you really want to do it then read and learn as much about it now as you can because its really not as easy as pop a boob in her mouth and ur done. It is painful at first, there can be latch issues, engorgement, low milk supply, etc, etc. So being knoledgeble now will save you alot of stress and frustration later. Also look into renting or buying

I have no intentions of letting her opinion of my decision effect it. I still fully plan to breastfeed I just thought that her "You're too young" statement made no sense. To me it said, "You're too young to do what will benefit your child". And like Tarynn said pretty of other young mothers had done it, just in my mom's eyes it's inappropriate because of my age. And I do know it won't be easy but it's 100% worth it to me as long as she gets the nutrients that she needs.

Wow that is stupid. Do not listen to her. Breastfeeding is the best thing for your baby.

I LOVE breastfeeding and don't want to ever stop. (That would be weird if I didn't though lol.) The bond I feel with breastfeeding is so amazing. Everytime I hold him close and he's nursing it's amazing. All my friends that didn't breastfeed truly regret not trying hard enough.

If the hospital sticks a bottle in your child's mouth you just keep trying. If you try hard enough after that your baby will latch on easier. Plus your baby will also take a bottle so it'll be easier if you decide to go some place.

Also I love the boobs I got from breastfeeding! Ha ha
