It really does feel like a period cramp only stronger. At first I thought I was just cramping until my doctor told me I was having contractions. They feel like cramps but your stomach also gets really tight and for me it starts up and goes down, like in a v shape down to my who-ha. It's really uncomfortable and you feel like you don't even want to move or breathe through them. But they also pass just as fast as they start (mine anyway). Just if you feel that pain then start timing them. The other day I had 3 in a half hour because I was out shopping, one more and they say go to the ER if you have more then 4 in an hour. Now if you do get more then 4 in an hour, don't get too excited, they say it isn't active labor until they are about 2-3 minutes apart. You're so close!

Really horrible period pain. Its the only way i can describe them! They go from low, to high, to low. If that makes sense. Like they hurt the most in the middle of one coz they peak. And they get stronger, sorer and worser the more dialated you get. Buttttt try not to think about all that crappy stuff. Just be excited for your birth. Your going to meet ur little girl! Being nervous wont help anything and you can worry about being in pain when you actually are! lol. Rememba they always have drugs. lol. Youll do just fine! Not to much longer now!

My OB and nurses all said "you'll def know when real labor/contractions begin and you need to get to the hospital" I had no idea what they were talking about until I went thru it.

Contractions started at mild cramping then progressed over next several hours to more intense discomfort (felt like really bad constipation for me) about 5 minutes apart. We drove to hosp and I waved off the wheelchair and walked to L&D. They sent me home since I wasn't dilated enough. Looking back that should have been the big tip-off that I didn't want a wheelchair. When REAL labor started I was literally keening and crawling around the dining room table. Pain was excruciating! I couldn't even tell you how "normal" contractions feel since I had back labor and all the pain was in my lower back and butt - I never did experience any pressure to push. By the time I went back to the hosp I was 8cm dilated. Pain was horrible and I guess I could have gone sooner but I was so afraid they would send me home again and I couldn't stand the idea of sitting in a car.

Most likely you won't have any wicked, evil back labor and when people tell you you won't be able to talk through them or walk well - - they prolly will be right. You'll look back at your early contractions and think they were a piece of cake;-)
