8/1/05- So here I am starting at 168.5lb. In a way I'm happy about that since I haven't weighed this little since 2001, however, when I got married in Oct. 1999 I was at 140- so that was some major eating I did for a few years. When I got pregnant in July of 2002 I was 177, and when I got pregnant in April 2004 I was 194. My highest weight ever was 222 in January. By 3 weeks post partum I was back in regular clothes and by 10 weeks I was at 180 pounds. The weight loss has slowed down a lot since then. I go to the gym five days a week. at first it was just the elliptical trainer for 30-50 minutes. Then in April I started one aerobics class a week and four days of elliptical trainer, with a couple jogs on the treadmill thrown in. This is the 4th week of four days a week of classes- 2 aerobic and 2 strength training. I was really hoping that the weight would just fall off because I switched things up so much, but it hasn't really happened. I'm telling myself that I've gained muscle, which I definitely have, so that's why the scale isn't moving, even though my pants fit better. My goal is to lose 8 more pounds for the month of August- I think 2 pounds a week should be reasonable. I'll update here to share how it's going. Thanks for reading my little journey, I'll get there....

I just realized there was a typo in my last entry, I said I'd been at 145 for a while, it's supposed to be 154. And that's where I still am. It's probably been 8-10 weeks at this weight, I'm wondering whether this is just where my body wants to be at now. I dipped down to 152 for a week but immediately went back up. I'm still watching what I eat and keeping very active, especially now that I'm into the training for my triathlon. For the first time in a long time, maybe in my whole adult life, I'm not as concerned with the number on the scale as I am with how I'm feeling. I'm wearing my size 8 jeans, which was part of my initial goal anyway, I just thought I'd have to get back to 140 pounds to wear them. But if I'm healthy at 154, I can accept that for now. Once I get into the more vigorous training phase I might lose some more anyway. It's nice to be at a point of acceptance, it's been an effort for the past year+, but it's been well worth it! I'll keep checking in.

It's been a while, again, since I caught up the journal. I'm 3 pounds down from my last entry, I've been at 145 for quite some time. But even though the scale's showing a plateau I think that things are going well. I've gotten stronger in my weight training classes and faster at my running. I've got a pair of size 6 pants that are really close to fitting. I feel great, have tons of energy, I'll get to my goal weight eventually.

That is so great! That makes me feel good just to read it- the last time I lost weight I dieted, but I didn't make a lifestyle change, that is what I need to do this time!

This week I had my "lightbulb moment" where I finally understood, deeply, the phrase "it's not a diet, it's a lifestyle change". I'm not sure exactly what did it, but I realized that even once I hit my goal weight, because I WILL hit it eventually, I've got no desire to go back to eating the way I did before. It might sound silly, because if I did go back I'd gain the weight back, but a part of me thought I would still want to add some things back. I think I'm always going to have to track what I eat, maybe not daily, but still regularly just to keep me in reality. I let it slip for a few weeks and it was amazingly easy to start sneaking back too many calories into my diet. I've got 3 boxes of Girl Scout cookies sitting here at my desk and I'm going to give them to my co-workers. I'm not even tempted to eat one. (although I've frozen away one box of Tagalongs in case I want to eat ONE at a time some day) I LIKE my healthier foods and I like how they make me feel. It's just not worth it to go back to my old diet. I so happy that my kids will grow up with more fruits and vegetables than snacks and processed meals. It's all so worth it! Now if only the scale would catch up with how I'm feeling!! All in good time.

Back on track with the journal...
This week's weigh in was 157.5, that's a total of 8 pounds lost since I started up again at the beginning of January. It could be coming off faster, I know, but I'm happy with my 0.5-1 pound a week pace. If I lose 12.5 pounds in the next 12 weeks, that would be my 145 pound goal weight!! My size 8's are comfortable at this point, and while I never thought I'd even get to size 8, it's possible that I could get into size 6's if I lose another 12 pounds.
I'm able to run at 6.0mph pretty comfortably at this point. Yesterday I turned it up to 6.5mph and could only manage 5 minutes because it seemed to be much harder. I've got 4.5 months to train for my running leg of the triathlon, I'd like to get under 10 minutes per mile for the race. I can't wait for the nicer weather so we can take the boys out to walk after work, that's always fun. That's about it for now.

Great job on the weight loss!!

Wonderful accomplishments! Great that someone who didn't know that you were dieting noticed the difference!`
