Since Nancy has decided to challenge us, and I've said I'm ready for it, I'm going to put it in writing right here!

My goals are:

1. Lose 2 lbs by Thanksgiving
2. Not pig out over the holiday weekend
3. Continue going to the gym 2-3 days a week
4. Lose another 3 lbs by Christmas

Wish me luck! My posts begin tomorrow!

Wed 11/15 - a good start.

Went to the gym this morning for 15 mins cardio warm-up, 2 sets of lower-body weight training, and a set of elbow rehab exercises. Now eating my usual healthy breakfast of Shredded Wheat with skim milk and a banana. Starting the day right is never a problem for me. Today my challenge is to stay on track!

I remembered this morning that over the summer I had set an 8-week challenge for myself with respect to work goals, which I achieved. I was going to set 2 more challenges for myself for the rest of the year, but elbow surgery in September got me out of goal-oriented thinking. I'm hoping this 6-week Christmas challenge will get me back in that mindset.

Thu, 11/17.

Yesterday I wrote down what I ate and when, and realized just how many BLTs I consume (Bites, Licks & Tastes). In addition to my healthy meals, I also ate 6 mini-pretzels and half a cookie in the morning, the other half cookie & half a small biscotti in the afternoon, and several cashews when I first walked in the door at home. . . for a total of almost 300 calories of BLTs. Not the end of the world, but I do need to stop finding reasons to "take a little break" or to do something else with that "little break" than nibble. Part of the reason I do it is that going to the lunchroom is one of the few reasons I have to get up from my desk and one of the few ways I can take a break that doesn't involve distracting other people from their work.

I was down 2 lbs this morning from earlier this week, but I've been bouncing between 127 & 125 for months, so I'm not celebrating until I'm well below 125 and STAY THERE.

Today I didn't snack at all. Had a Slim-fast while driving to a very early morning meeting, then a single scrambled egg, slice of toast, and 2 pieces of bacon for breakfast; unsweetened ice tea and a totally amazing chicken pot pie (best I've ever had) for lunch; and cashews for a snack this evening (it'll be another 2 hours at least before I eat - writing this at 6pm).

I also got news from my doctor that I need to cut back drastically on sugars and alcohol, at least temporarily. I can stick with a single beer on Fri & Sat nights, but going without cookies, sweets, and simple carbs for 7 days is going to be *quite* a challenge.

Fri 11/18 - hanging in there - though my colleague baked yummy chocolate chip cookies and I just *had* to have a couple. ;) But I was good otherwise and even though it's 6:30pm and I'm still in the office and everyone else has had a beer, I remembered that I only get to have one beer, and I'd rather save it to enjoy with DH in an hour.

Don't know if I'll check in over the weekend. Going to a wedding tomorrow and will not be able to drink more than a glass or two, per doctor's orders. No wedding cake either!

No, it's because of some medication I'm taking, but I do have to keep an eye on my blood sugar too. Generally I'm OK with it, but not as careful as I should be. My 13yo is borderline diabetic, so in our family we are all aware of not eating simple carbs on their own. She's reasonably good at it but still probably consumes more carbs than she should.

Sun 11/20.

Ahh, the weekend - always a challenge! We went to a wedding yesterday and I didn't eat quite everything in sight, but I did have 3 glasses of wine over the course of 5 hours and had a slice of wedding cake. However, I was very moderate with the appetizers and ate only a smallish portion of the entree. Dinner was a bowl of Wheaties and a bowl of DH's yummmmy chicken soup. :)

Today I fly off on a short business trip. My exercise will be pulling my luggage through miles of airport on 2 trips within 36 hours. I find that even though I eat moderately on these trips, the flight always seems to make me blow up. I'm hoping that by Wed morning I'll be back down to 125 lbs.

Tue, 11/22.

Back from travel with the accompanying "travel bloat" (I was up 2 lbs this morning, even though I only got 2 meals a day for the past 2 days - no snacking either!). I still have 2 days before my Thanksgiving weigh-in (goal weight 125), so if I steer clear of salty snacks, cookies, and beer, I should be good.

I had an elbow relapse this past weekend and was in so much pain that if I'd had Percoset in my suitcase, I might have been tempted to take it. I've not had that much pain since the surgery in Sept. It was better yesterday and I'm just trying to take it easy today.

Travel is rough on the body. . . I may or may not make it to the gym tomorrow.

Fri 11/25.

I didn't quite make it down to 125. It would have only taken 2 days of restraint before Thanksgiving, but I didn't do it. I also couldn't exercise after a couple of days of travel. So I ended up at 126. Not bad, but not my goal, either.

I didn't feel badly about it. . . until I got to my parents' house on Thanksgiving. My parents have a big mirrored wall around their fireplace, so I was confronted by my "mommy belly" as long as I was in their house! In my mind, I look one way - but the mirror, combined with the fact that my size 10 pants (which used to be too large) were constricting my waist terribly, showed me that I look quite another!

We went to my sister's house for dinner, and I was reminded *again* of why I need to get in shape. My sisters and I all have roughly the same "apple" shape. They are all 20-40 lbs overweight. I had forgotten that the last time I saw them together, I vowed I would not become them - but I'm getting closer with every visit! This is the most unhealthy place to have weight, too, around the waist, and we have a family history of heart disease (my mom has had 2 heart attacks and 4 bypass surgeries, and our grandmother died of heart disease). Besides - who wants to look like a dumpy middle-aged mom? Not me!

Just the motivation I need right now!

So sorry that you didn't quite reach the goal, but you did give it a good try!
