Lynn's April Journal

Today I started my diet. My weight is 175 and my goal is to weigh 130, so I’m aiming for a 45 pound weight loss. I know I can do it....I did it in the past and used this board for support (this was perhaps 4 years ago), so I'm thinking positive. Looking back, when my life became very stressful (my department was abolished and I was to be layed off...a situation which dragged on for 6 months, then I received another job in a different department in another city), and I had less time available to get on line and didn’t visit this board or fitday, and I began to gain weight. I had another big lifestyle change almost a year ago (I took an early retirement) and now believe everything has settled down where I can focus on dieting, exercising, journaling and logging my food intake (all which is necessary for me to lose weight).

So here’s to a new beginning! And I'm glad to be here :).

I plan to take my measurements this afternoon. This is one thing I’ve always regretted not doing in the past when starting a diet. But I’m not going to post them!!!

Thank's Sue! I'm having an easier time dieting this time around :). Everything seems to be falling into place!

Yes, I do have a cholesterol problem. My cholesterol has been as high as 330 (and I've never been a big meat eater, but do love cheese, ice cream, etc). And perhaps I'm inclined to naturally produce more cholesterol. Who knows? I was on meds for a while, but then decided to try to lower it naturally, through diet and cholesterol counting. I learned that limiting my cholesterol to 100 mg daily, my cholesterol leveled out at 225. Good, but not quite good enough. So I added oatmeal and flax seed to my diet (both which should help lower cholesterol a bit) and I'm limiting daily cholesterol intake to around 50-75 mg. and will see where this takes me :). I'll have my cholesterol tested in a few months. Oh, I also tried red yeast rice, an over the counter item which is supposed to help lower cholesterol (which my doctor suggested), and it didn't agree with me at all.

Lynn :)
