If you want to lose weight, no snacking after 6PM.  If you're a night owl, no snacking after 8PM.  Eating at night changes your metabolism for the worst because it decreases fat oxidation.

This article says 6:00PM should be the cut off.  That seems so early to me.  I used to think it was 8PM for everyone, but not according to this article.

Do you snack in the evening?

No because we don't have dinner before 6 PM.....we don't usually finish until 7.  I'm still full and not hungry for a snack before bed. Personally I disagree with the article.  No eating after 6 PM just isn't realistic foro most people who work .  Interesting article but I do disagree with it.

I often snack in the evening, fairly late. We eat dinner pretty late, usually between 7-8pm. I'm satisfied when I finish dinner so don't have any "dessert" but around 10pm I often get a little hungry or crave something sweet.

I agree with Sue that its unrealistic to think that most people (at least those who work typical hours) could be completely done eating by 6pm, even 8pm is often a stretch. Then, if you don't go to bed until 11pm its likely that you will get hungry again before bed or wake up in the night hungry...if I'm hungry I have difficulty falling asleep. Not sure how they define a "night owl", to me that's someone who is up until 1 or 2am or later. I'm pretty sure I'd be hungry again then if my last snack was at 8. We usually eat fairly low fat meals; if I eat a higher fat meal then I will feel full for a longer time (and not want a snack) but then I probably ate as many calories as the meal plus snack. I wonder if eating a higher fat meal earlier allows for the greater weight loss?

My inlaws OTOH are usually asleep by 9pm so it might work for them, but they get up at 4:30-5am and take their big meal in the early afternoon so their last meal, in the early evening, is more like a snack.

I'm not saying that the science is wrong about the fat oxidation at night, just that telling people to not eat anything after 6pm is unrealistic.
